Lead Facilitator · Church of Sacred Sacraments

Fifty years of sitting with what people cannot say out loud.

Thomas J. Reifers, MS, LPC — facilitation of sacramental work for members carrying decisions, patterns, or grief that will not resolve inside the rooms they already occupy.

This work is conducted within the Church of Sacred Sacraments as sincere religious exercise. It is offered to members who have completed the church's questionnaire and ministerial review. It is not recreational, not clinical treatment, and not for everyone.

I · Why People Come

Some things cannot be said inside the structures that depend on you.

Most people who find their way here are not in crisis. They are functioning, often impressively. They have a board, a team, a marriage, a congregation, a practice — and inside every one of those relationships there is a reason not to say the whole truth.

So the thing goes unspoken. It does not go away. It reappears as the same decision made three different ways, the same conflict with a new name, the same fatigue that sleep does not touch.

What is needed is not advice. It is a container held by someone with no stake in the outcome, no role in your life to protect, and enough experience not to be frightened by what surfaces.

II · The Facilitator

Five decades. One discipline.

Thomas J. Reifers holds a Master of Science and has practiced as a Montana-licensed professional counselor for most of his working life. He maintains a private clinical practice in Kalispell. As lead facilitator for the Church of Sacred Sacraments, he oversees and guides sacramental work with psilocybin inside a rigorously held, RFRA-protected religious container.

His formation in how ceremony is properly held came over decades of direct involvement with Native American Church traditions, sweat lodge, and related Indigenous ceremonial forms — as a participant and student, not as a lineage holder. He does not offer those ceremonies, represent those traditions, or speak for them. What he carries forward is what they taught him about preparation, humility, and the difference between ceremony and spectacle.

The emphasis has never changed: preparation, presence, and deliberate integration. Never spectacle.

III · An Important Distinction

What this is, and what it is not.

Thomas is a licensed professional counselor in the State of Montana (LPC #351) and maintains a private clinical practice, Northwest Counseling and Consulting, in Kalispell.

That practice and this facilitation work are entirely separate. Facilitation within the Church of Sacred Sacraments is not counseling, not psychotherapy, and not clinical treatment. It does not create a therapeutic relationship, it is not covered by his license, and it is not billed to or reimbursed by insurance. No diagnosis is made and no treatment is provided.

What the clinical training contributes is judgment: the ability to recognize when someone is not a fit for this work, and the willingness to say so.

IV · The Work

Preparation. Presence. Integration.

The ceremony itself is the shortest part and the least of it. What determines whether anything actually changes is the work done before and the work done after.

Preparation

Before anything is scheduled, the actual constraint is located, not the presenting problem. Intention is built deliberately rather than improvised on the day. You will know what you are walking toward and why.

Presence

A sober, confidential, carefully held container. Boundaries agreed in advance and in writing. Nothing to manage, no one to perform for, no reputational risk in the room.

Integration

Structured follow-through in the days and weeks after, because insight that is not carried into action decays. This is included in the work.

V · Screened Before Scheduled

The most important part happens before anything begins.

  1. 01Thorough confidential screening. Medical history, mental health history, current medications, and substance use are reviewed personally before anything is scheduled.
  2. 02People are declined. Certain conditions and medications are not compatible with this work. When that is the case Thomas says so directly and, where he can, points elsewhere.
  3. 03Confidentiality in both directions. Your identity and participation are protected with the same weight you are asked to honor. No recordings. Nothing published, ever, without separate written permission.
  4. 04Integration is part of the work. Support afterward is included.

Any decision about your medications belongs to you and your prescriber. Thomas does not provide, sell, or administer any substance, and offers no medical advice.

VI · The Covering

Held inside a sincere religious container.

This work is conducted within the Church of Sacred Sacraments, where Thomas serves as lead facilitator. Sacramental practice is undertaken as sincere religious exercise — a category of activity recognized under the Religious Freedom Restoration Act and its state analogues.

That framework is not a formality or a workaround. It describes how the work is actually held: bounded by covenant, conscience, and accountability rather than convenience. Membership is free, and what it asks of you is discussed openly before anything proceeds.

Nothing here is legal advice. Thomas does not provide, sell, or administer any substance.

VII · How It Proceeds

  1. 01
Membership — If you are not already a member, begin with the church's questionnaire. Free, and read personally by a minister.

  3. 03
Conversation — If there is a fit, a private conversation. No preparation needed.

  5. 05
Preparation — Intention, context, and logistics, built deliberately.
  6. 06
The Work — A held, sober, private container.
  7. 07
